SEGAS Increases Entry Places for 42 km Athens Marathon to 18,500

Registration for the 2017 “Athens Marathon. The Authentic” opens at 4pm on Monday, April 10, for individuals that wish to participate in the annual event. The Hellenic Athletics Federation – SEGAS has announced that this year the number of entries in the 42 km race will be increased to 18,500, following last year’s record of 18,000 runners.

Athens Marathon 214The 35th “Athens Marathon. The Authentic” will be held on Sunday, November 12, and the number of total participants, including major athletes from all over the world,are expected to exceed 53,000 from 50,000 last year.

According to SEGAS, the number of spots for each race of the 35th “Athens Marathon – Τhe Authentic” are as follows: original Marathon race of 42,195km (which includes power walking) 18,500 entries; 10km run 9,000 spots; 5km morning race 9,000 entries; 5km evening run 6,000 spots.

Individual registrations will cover 20 percent of entries in the 10km and 5km Morning Races and 60 percent of entries in the Marathon Race and 5km Afternoon Race.

SEGAS advises athletes interested in running the 10km or 5km to sign up fast as spots run out in the first few hours and registrations close automatically.

“Athens Marathon. The Authentic” is a unique, international event, established as a remembrance of the ancient Marathon route and Greece’s first contemporary Olympic Games, which took place in 1896. More than 120 years have passed and the Athens Marathon remains a symbol of human will and strength, a celebration of solidarity among people.
