With the aim to promote Patmos as a sports tourism destination, the 1st “Patmos Revelation” will take place on the “sacred” island of the Dodecanese from June 30 to July 2.

Patmos is the place, where Saint John the Theologian lived in exile and wrote the “Apocalypse”, which is one of the greatest chapters of Christianity. It is a favorite pilgrimage site, as every year thousands of tourists visit the Monastery and the Cave of the Apocalypse – both declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

Organized by the Municipality of Patmos in cooperation with Active Media Group, the 1st “Patmos Revelation” will host Greek Olympic and world champions, youngsters and adults, professional and amateur athletes and will include running and open water swimming races.

The aim of the event is for sports tourism to be promoted as an alternative choice to visitors, who will get acquainted with a different and unprecedented experience, while enjoying the mystical atmosphere of the island, an announcement said.

“The reason we chose to bring sports tourism to Patmos is because we want to showcase the beauties of our island by attracting people of all ages, while offering fun and hospitality,” said the Mayor of Patmos, Grigoris Stoikos.

According to the organizers, more information will be announced in the next weeks regarding the registration process and the program of the activities.

Greek Travel Pages (GTP) is among the communication sponsors of the event.
