Transport in Greece to be Affected by Strike on May 1

Public transport employees in Greece will participate in strike mobilizations and work stoppages on Monday to mark May Day.

Workers of ILPAP trolley-buses have announced a 24-hour strike on May 1 in protest “against the austerity, the memorandums of previous years and the evaluation process, which brings new tough measures”, an announcement read.

Buses in Athens will run only between 9am and 9pm and the electric railway (ISAP) will run from 8am until the end of shift.

Trains of the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) will also not be running for 24 hours so there will be no services on the suburban railway (Proastiakos) and TRAINOSE routes for 24 hours. As a result, itineraries on the Athens – Thessaloniki route scheduled to depart at midnight on April 30 will be cancelled and metro line 3 (blue line) will operate only until Doukisis Plakendias station. There will be no metro service to Athens International Airport.

Moreover, all passenger ferries will remain docked across Greece on May Day due to an announced 24-hour strike, called by the Pan-Hellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO).

Other means of public transport in Athens (tram and metro) have not announced strike action at the moment.
