Surveys, Trends & Stats Greek Airports’ Passenger Traffic Up 6.6% in First Quarter of 2017 by GTP editing team 2 May 2017 written by GTP editing team 2 May 2017 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 8 Photo source: AIA Some six million passengers passed through Greek airports during the first three months of the year, up 6.6 percent compared to the same period in 2016, according to data released on Tuesday by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA). According to the data, the number of passengers that passed through Greek airports in the first quarter of 2017 was 5,980,112 compared to 5,611,578 in the corresponding period of 2016. The total number of flights at Greek airports from January until March reached 60,009 (of which 36,261 were domestic flights and 23,748 were international flights). In March alone, 2.2 million passengers passed through Greek airports, recording an increase of 5.5 percent. More specifically, domestic passengers were up by 0.5 percent and international passengers increased by 11.15 percent, compared to the same month in 2016. HCAA’s data also showed that the airports of Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Chania and Rhodes received the most passengers in March. According to the data, Athens’ airport welcomed 1,374,600 passengers, Thessaloniki’s passenger traffic amounted to 409,035 and 93,507 passengers passed through Heraklion’s airport. Chania’s passenger traffic amounted to 82,167 passengers and Rhodes welcomed 61,900 passengers. In the third quarter of 2017, the airports of Paros, Mykonos and Skiathos recorded the highest percentage increase in passenger traffic. According to HCAA data, passenger traffic at Paros airport grew by 114.5 percent to 10,313 passengers; at Mykonos airport increased by 98.9 percent to 39.515 passengers; and at Skiathos airport grew by 62.7 percent to 2,792 passengers.
