Held on the initiative of Deputy Epirus Prefect Stratos Ioannou, the three-day meeting through to May 14 aims to serve as a podium of exchange and will focus on issues including innovative ways to promote tourism products of each region, sharing region-specific know-how, the problem of visibility, synergies between local governments in thematic areas such as gastronomy, culture, archaeology etc, ways to effectively tap into tourism promotion and funding programs, the joint organization of parallel events at international tourism fairs and creating a digital presence under one umbrella. “The aim is for it to function as a think-tank for tourism development,” said Ioannou of the conference. “It’s an opportunity to exchange experiences, ideas and opinions, not on a theoretical level but in practice through actions. This will help us to a great extent as we overcome individual problems, speed up processes through shared experience and promote and adopt innovative ideas from the initial concept to its immediate implementation.” The three-day conference will conclude with visits to the Archaeological Museum of Nikopolis, a tour of Ancient Nikopolis and the Acheron Oracle of the Dead (Acheron Nekromanteion) while delegates will also have the opportunity to sample local cuisine.
