Plans include remodelling and expanding terminal size by 53 percent, constructing a new fire station, and expanding the landside parking area, increasing by 13 percent the number of check-in counters, by 25 percent the number of security lanes, and by 17 percent the number of gates. The event is one in a series held at destinations across Greece where Fraport will be operating local airports. “Mykonos… today constitutes an exemplary case for the global tourism industry. Fraport Greece is here to enhance this extraordinary course. Through the development and upgrade of Mykonos airport’s infrastructure, we aim to give Mykonos what is missing today: an airport worthy of its reputation, a modern airport, with integrated services that will meet the expectations of every visitor. I am particularly happy because we are not alone in this endeavor. We are walking this path together with the local society and authorities,” said Alexander Zinell, Fraport Greece CEO. A similar happening was held on the Ionian island of Corfu earlier this month with plans there including a new terminal expanding the airport by 24 percent, the renovation of the current terminal, a 27 percent increase in the number of check-in counters, a 50 percent rise in the number of security lanes, and a 33 percent increase in the number of gates. “We would like to engage with the stakeholders, the business and political communities to discuss how to best develop the airport and to build a great future of Corfu,” said Zinell.
