Photo source: Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority Passenger traffic via Greek airports increased by 10.1% in January-April 2017 from the same period last year, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority said on Wednesday. During the first four months of the year, Greek airports saw 9,275,894 passengers travel through its doors, compared to 8,427,013 passengers during the same period in 2016. Overall, 848,881 more passengers passed through Greek airports in the first four months of 2017 compared to 2016. Since the start of the year until April, the Greek airports serviced 89,991 flights (50,489 were domestic and 39,502 were international) and showed a marginal increase of 0.2 percent. In the corresponding period in 2016, 89,851 flights were serviced in airports in Greece. Mykonos Airport. Moreover, the airports of Paros, Mykonos and Zakynthos saw the largest increase in passengers during the first four months of the year compared to 2016. Paros Airport saw passenger traffic increase by 111.3 percent year-on-year to 18,028 passengers and was followed by Mykonos Airport that recorded a 79.2 percent growth to 74.821 passengers. The airport on Zakynthos recorded an increase of 58.5 percent to 25.205 passengers. In April alone, Greek airports serviced 3,295,782 passengers, an increase of 17.1 percent compared to the same month in 2016. According to the data, the airports that saw an the largest increase in passenger traffic compared to April 2016, were those located in Athens (1,639,087 more passengers), Thessaloniki (485,203), Heraklion (353,668), Rhodes (204,769) and Chania (183,830).
