By Nikos Krinis The president of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, Yiorgos Tsakiris, on Tuesday officially announced that the new classification procedure for accommodation in Greece is running and invited professionals to log on and apply for certification. Presenting the findings of the annual study of the Institute for Tourism Research and Forecasts (ITEP), Tsakiris said that the quality of Greece’s legally-operating hotels is the “answer” to international competition and domestic unfair competition (short-term private rentals). “Quality is the main advantage of the legally-operating hotels and this is where professionals must focus,” he said. Titled “Hospitality Quality Guaranteed”, the classification procedure, which aims to ensure that the highest standards are met across the Greek accommodation spectrum, are carried out via the chamber’s online services and finalized with the issue of certification. During the presentation, the three first hoteliers and the three first apartment/room to let owners, whose lodgings were classified through the new system, received their classification signs.
