Ellinair’s first direct flight from Moscow to Kavala touched down at 7:55 am on Friday, May 26. A Mouzenidis Group airline, Ellinair this summer directly connects Kavala with the Russian cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg.

A welcoming ceremony took place for the 138 Russian passengers of Ellinair at the Megas Alexandros (Alexander the Great) airport’s terminal that included a buffet and gift packages of local products. The Russian tourists were also treated to a traditional dance by the Lyceum Club of Greek Women.

“This day will be the beginning of a continuous development,” Ellinair Director Stavros Daliakas said upon the flight’s arrival.

Flights from Kavala’s Megas Alexandros International Airport to Moscow’s Vnukovo International Airport will run on Tuesdays and Fridays. Flights to St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo International Airport will run on Mondays and Thursdays.

“Our thoughts are to increase flights to Kavala next year and not only from Russia, perhaps from Germany, as we aim to develop our network, wanting to offer our customers more choices in Greece.”

Present at the ceremony was Kavala Region’s deputy governor Theodoros Markopoulos and representatives of the area’s hotel association.

Markopoulos expressed the satisfaction of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and the Regional Unit of Kavala for the Moscow-Kavala direct flight and applauded Mouzenidis Group’s president, Boris Mouzenidis.

“I want to believe that this start will be crowned with success and we will be able to record more arrivals and more satisfied visitors,” Markopoulos said.
