If you’re visiting Crete and seeking that special cheese, the freshest fruits and vegetables or that yogurt made of pure goat’s milk then a visit to the municipal market of Chania is a must.

Inaugurated in 1913 by Greece’s Prime Minister at the time Eleftherios Venizelos, the once buzzing with life Chania municipal market is a city landmark thanks to its unique cross-shaped architecture and main role in the island’s history.

The 4,000m2 Chania municipal market, one of the biggest in the Balkan region, is open daily from 8am to 8pm and offer a great chance to find the best Cretan products including Crete’s famous graviera cheese, the world-renowned Cretan olive oil as well as the finest local spirit raki, among other goodies.
