The six products have been classified by the EU as protected designation of origin (PDO) and are among a list of 100 other PDO and protected geographical indication (PGI) items from the EU including Bavarian beer, French champagne and Italian gorgonzola to be discussed in negotiations. Each side has drawn up a list of 100 products which it wishes to safeguard against imitations and reproductions. The partners have two months to deliberate. The EU and China began working together on the protection of native products a decade ago with the first step being the publication of respective lists.
