Ministry Works with Regions to Give Greece a Unified Tourism Identity

Linking the Tourism Ministry’s national strategy with the tourism policies of each of the Greek regions in order to give Greece a unified tourism identity was the focus of a recent meeting between Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura and the Vice Governors for tourism of the country’s 13 regions.

During the meeting, Kountoura presented the ministry’s national tourism strategy and underlined how it would be implemented regionally for Greece to become a leading and safe 365 days a year holiday choice, offering unique and complete travel experiences in each destination.

On their part, the vice governors of the regions presented the competitive advantages of their destinations and agreed to cooperate with the ministry to form a unified national tourism identity for Greece, one that will have a targeted communication and promotional strategy.

Minister Kountoura referred to the positive results in tourism, which resulted from the close cooperation between the ministry and the regions during the last two years and underlined that “the success of our tourism is a success for all of us”. She assured the regional vice governors that their cooperation will be further supported and continue even more vigorously.

The minister called on the vice governors to list specific proposals for the promotion of each of their region’s travel experiences that aim for sustainable tourism development throughout the year and that will bring benefits to their destinations and local communities.

The Tourism Ministry announced that a new meeting will be held in the near future to define the national planning of Greece’s unified tourism identity and how it will be promoted by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) in cooperation with the in 2018 per target market.

Moreover, the meeting focused on promoting Greece to the Russian market in the framework of the “Russia – Greece Year of Tourism 2017-2018” that is to begin in October. The ministry requested that each region submit proposals in accordance to their tourism products that are aimed to attract Russian travelers.
