“Travelers plan trips focused on taste-inspired exploration and seek to fully immerse themselves in the local culture, of which food plays a huge part,” said Pepijn Rijvers, Chief Marketing Officer of Booking.com

Among the over 120 million traveler reviews on Booking.com, food stands out as a clear passion for many.

The data reveals Asian and South American flavors feature highly in the top ten foodie favorite destinations with Australia and Spain also included.

Almost one in 10 people have traveled to fulfill their hobby of fine dining in the last year, while seven percent for their passion for wine.

Millennials are most keen on seeking out food passions whilst travelling, with one in 10 combining their love of street food with travelling, compared to only four percent of those travelers aged over 55. Furthermore, 79 percent of travelers between the ages of 18 and 34 consider travelling somewhere that’s specifically known for its gastronomic delights.

The survey was based on 12,781 respondents across 13 markets and the figures were collected by Booking.com in September 2016.
