Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura met with the newly elected board of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) this week to discuss joint strategies that will efficiently develop and promote tourism.

Kountoura met with SETE’s newly elected president, Yiannis Retsos as well as with the new board and wished them success in their goals.

SETE’s new board presented Minister Kountoura with priority issues to be addressed including shoreline use, short-term rentals and the sharing economy, the suggested overnight tax and intellectual property-related rights as well as the issue of tourism training to be provided by the tourism ministry.

The two sides agreed to work together towards the development of the sector, pledging to cooperate on issues of design, planning, legality and competition.

Kountoura underlined that ensuring the smooth operation of the tourist market and the high quality of tourist services is also in great part due to private initiative.

The meeting was also attended by SETE vice presidents Lysandros Tsilidis and Kostas Konstantinidis; secretary general George Vernicos; deputy general secretary Kallinikos Kallinikos and general manager George Amvrazis. On behalf of the ministry, General Secretary for Tourism Policy and Development George Tziallas; general secretary of tourism Evridiki Kourneta and GNTO vice president Angeliki Chondromatidou.
