The Cycladic island of Tinos is aiming to expand to new markets and promote both its tourism offerings as well as its local products with the launch of its latest tourism action plan.

Under the motto “Tinos the Aegean Muse”, local authorities and professionals aim via a series of marketing actions to showcase the island’s long history in art and culture as well as establish a brand around its artistic legacy. Indicatively, Tinos’ marble masters and their craft have been identified by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The island continues to this day to serve as an inspiration to future generations through its Preparatory and Professional School of Fine Arts in Pirgos as well as its Museum of Marble Crafts.

The strategy has been drawn up based on a study which identified key areas of interest including gastronomy, local architecture, culture, religion, and nature.

“The study was a necessary step so that we could proceed and plan priority actions taking into account contemporary methods to reach out to new markets,” said Deputy Mayor Anastasia Deliyianni.

Established markets include France, Germany, Italy and the UK with plans to reach out to Belgium, Scandinavian countries, Switzerland, Austria and the Netherlands, Australia, China as well as to Arab and Asian countries.
