According to data from AIA, this is the first time that June passenger volumes exceed the 2 million mark. “The outcome was formulated by the strong growth of both domestic and international markets that enjoyed an increase of 6.8 percent and 13.5 percent respectively,” AIA said in an announcement. During June, Greek residents presented an overall growth of 26 percent, while foreign residents further increased their already high 2016 respective levels by 2 percent. Overall, during the first half of 2017, the airport’s passenger traffic reached 9.4 million, exceeding prior-year levels by a robust 8.3 percent, attributed to the sharp increase of the international sector by 13.2 percent. The domestic market remained overall at 2016 levels (+0.1 percent), mostly due to the successful performance of June traffic. Both Greek and foreign residents presented an overall growth at the level of 14 percent and 2 percent % respectively. According to the data, the number of flights at AIA during the January-June 2017 period reached 86,682, recording an increase of 1,7 percent.
