Event News Alternative Tourism Takes Center Stage at NOSTOS 2017 by GTP editing team 24 July 2017 written by GTP editing team 24 July 2017 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 9 Greece’s alternative forms of tourism, including sports and adventure travel options, will be featured at the Nostos 2017, due to take place on October 13-16 in the town of Nafpaktos in the area of Etoloakarnania. Organized for a second year in a row by the Municipality of Nafpaktos, the event will include the NOSTOS Expo, which will host representatives of Greece’s regions, as well as tourism entrepreneurs from Greece and abroad. “The success of NOSTOS 2016 gave us the incentive to continue and take the next step. The first event showed us the way to fill in the blanks and enrich NOSTOS with even more events, which showcase alternative forms of tourism,” said the Mayor of Nafpaktos Panagiotis Loukopoulos while speaking to reporters on Monday. “We believe that alternative tourism can boost local economies, such as the area of Nafpaktos, and provide the opportunity to Greece to promote its beauties,” he added. Last year’s event was attended by more than 7,000 visitors from Greece and abroad and hosted 92 exhibitors and 32 hosted buyers from nine countries (Germany, France, Austria, Holland, Israel, Russia, Serbia, Greece and Cyprus). “We are in contact with interested organizations and businesses and we expect the number of visitors to exceed last year’s event”, said Yiannis Sipsas, Deputy Mayor of Nafpaktos and head of the Nostos 2017 Organizing Committee. Nafpaktos NOSTOS Forum 2017 The NOSTOS 2017 will begin on October 13 with the NOSTOS Forum, an event aiming to inform, educate and encourage the exchange of ideas on alternative forms of tourism. It will host organizations, academics and tourism professionals and aims at promoting best practices and current trends. Among the confirmed speakers is Mihalis Kavaratzis, Associate Professor of Marketing, Leicester University; Theodore Metaxas, Assistant Professor of the Department of Economics, Univeristy of Thessaly and Jordan Liane representing the European Ramblers Association – Deutscher Wanderverband. NOSTOS Food Tourism NOSTOS 2017 will also focus on gastronomy and Greek cuisine with the NOSTOS Food Tourism. Award winning chefs and gastronomy professionals will present the latest trends of local traditional cuisine and will feature unique flavors and ingredients produced in Greece, which are part of the so called “Mediterranean diet”.
