Speaking in parliament, Kountoura cited Hellenic Chamber of Hotels data according to which all inclusive style holiday units account for 2.2 percent of all hotel facilities in the country and 13.6 percent of the total capacity in rooms. “A great deal of effort, particularly with private parties and the Hotel Chamber as well as with private bodies such as the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) and the Hellenic Federation of Hoteliers (POX), has gone into supporting local communities and for the rewards to extend to other tourism businesses located near all inclusive hotels,” said Kountoura. “The ministry is working together with stakeholders to support all kinds of tourism,” she said adding that individual tourists often opt to stay at all inclusive units “boosting occupancy rates at these hotels”. The minister went on to add that the effort to expand outward has been backed by hoteliers who offer special vouchers to guests giving them the chance among others to eat out and “enjoy Greek hospitality”.
