During the January – July 2017 period, a significant increase was recorded in international arrivals at the 14 Greek regional airports that are under the management, operation and development of Fraport Greece.

According to released data, during the first seven months of the year, international arrivals at the 14 airports grew by 14.1 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2016. In July alone, arrivals increased by 10.3 percent.

According to the available data, a total of 1 million additional passengers passed through the 14 Greek regional airports, reaching 10,662 million passengers, compared with 9,334 million passengers in 2016.

Particularly encouraging were the air arrivals for the island of Kos, as the recent earthquake seemed to not have affected the development of its tourist traffic. Already, Kos is heading for a record of arrivals, as it recorded an increase in arrivals by 18.8 percent in July and 22.1 percent in the first seven months of the year.

The airport in Mytilini also recorded positive results during the January-July period as international arrivals increased by 57 percent to 560,700 passengers.

According to Fraport Greece, the island with the largest increase in passenger traffic was Rhodes, as passengers from abroad rose to 2.24 million from 2 million in the corresponding period of 2016.

Fraport Greece in April took over the 40-year management of 14 regional airports across Greece, which will undergo extensive renovation and construction works. The airports at the 14 regions across Greece include three mainland gateways (ThessalonikiAktion, and Kavala) and 11 airports on Greek islands (Chania on Crete, KefaloniaKos,MykonosLesvosRhodesSamosSantoriniSkiathos and Zakynthos).
