The newspaper’s journalist, Nicoletta Fontana, visited the island during a press trip organized by the Municipality of Alonissos and tourism consulting company Re:Make and named Alonissos an “ecological paradise” in her feature’s title. The feature, which has also appeared on the newspaper’s website, highlights the island’s “ecological consciousness”, describes its marine park as “the largest in the Mediterranean” and showcases the beaches and lush vegetation, which offer “unique moments to visitors”. Fontana also refers to the island’s numerous environmental awards. According to the Alonissos municipality, the “Quotidiano di Sicilia” is among Sicily’s and South Italy’s major newspapers with a circulation of 22,000 copies and dozens of thousands of readers. “Our aim is double: We wish to further develop our tourism product through innovative initiatives and promote tourism with new activities,” said Alonissos Mayor Petros Vafinis. In collaboration with local bodies and tourism professionals, the municipality will proceed with a new strategic plan to promote the island, ahead of the next year’s tourism season.
