Greece’s northern port city is gearing up for the 82nd Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) to kick off on Saturday at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition Center.

The colors of this year’s honored guest – China –  are being added to the city decor with the traditional Chinese lanterns taking their place in the exhibition space and at other cities in northern Greece.

The idea behind the decoration is to “make our guests feel at home” TIF-Helexpo president Anastasios Tzikas told a meeting of Northern Greece mayors.

On his part, TIF-Helexpo CEO Kyriakos Pozrikidis said the central focus of this year’s China tribute will be to promote Greek-China collaboration.

More than 150 innovation and IT enterprises from China will be participating at TIF’s largest exhibition stand.

Meanwhile, Hotels in Thessaloniki are fully booked as dozens of TIF participants are visiting the city this weekend, while over 1,500 exhibitors are ready to take their seats at the country’s largest business/industry happening, to run through to September 17.
