Greek Shipping Minister Panagiotis Kouroumplis on Tuesday approved two projects aimed to modernize the Port of Patra in the northern Peloponnese. Both projects are worth 2.48 million euros.

The first project concerns the safety of the port’s premises and involves the construction of relevant infrastructure and the purchase of electronic equipment that is essential for monitoring the port’s ground and sea areas and assisting in the control of vehicles, passengers and luggage.

The second project concerns the upgrading of the port’s northern section and includes improving infrastructure for the docking of ships, installing elastic buffer devices, installing a generator and constructing an entrance to gate No7.

According to an announcement by the ministry, the Patra Port Authority is expected to ensure the co-financing of the projects.

Patra is Greece’s third-largest city and the regional capital of Western Greece, 215 km west of Athens.
