Held in collaboration with the award-winning PBS television show “The Cooking Odyssey”, the five-day Mediterranean Diet and Health conference will take place at the Sani Resort and aims to promote the Mediterranean diet and “introduce participants to this healthy way of life”, the organizers said in an announcement. Greeks and foreign guests will have the opportunity to learn more on the benefits of the Mediterranean diet from a group of experts, as well as visit local olive oil mills, wineries, creameries and taste Greek products. Coordinated by Stefanos Kales, Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, the event follows the success of the “Mediterranean Diet and Workplace Health” conference, which was organized by Harvard University in 2014. “The traditional Greek diet is something we have learned from our grandparents and today some of the world’s top universities and medical journals are among its warm supporters,” Kales said. “The conference is a great opportunity for Greece to promote its local products, tourism and image abroad,” he added. According to Walter Willett, Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health, the traditional Mediterranean diet is a well-established standard of nutrition for good health and a long life. “Experiencing the Mediterranean diet, which is not only delicious but healthy as well, in its birthplace – Greece – is an unforgettable experience,” said Willet, who is among the conference’s speakers. The conference will also focus on the latest developments of the Mediterranean diet and its implementation in the workplace, universities and hotels. For more information press here.
