Event News ANEK LINES Holds Bicycle Race to Celebrate 50th Anniversary by GTP editing team 11 September 2017 written by GTP editing team 11 September 2017 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 8 Within the framework of the celebrations for its 50th anniversary, Cretan passenger shipping company ANEK LINES recently held a bicycle race in Chania, Crete, in collaboration with the Talos Cycling Association. Titled “50 Years ANEK LINES”, the race took place with the approval of the Hellenic Cycling Federation and the participation of athletes from all over Greece. The race started from ANEK’s central offices in Chania and saw the cyclists pass through the Municipal Market, the area of Halepa, the Cape and the graves of the Venizelos family to reach the port of Souda, where the event ended with an impressive circuit race. Following the bicycle race, all cyclists and guests celebrated on board ANEK’s “Eleftherios Venizelos” ferry with music and dancing by the “Pelasgoi” local dance association. ANEK LINES president Giorgos Katsanevakis awarded the winners of the “50 Years ANEK LINES” bicycle race. “Today we celebrate a 50-year course with friends and fellow travelers, to whom we are connected through our homeland, our traditions, our vision and common values,” said ANEK LINES president Giorgos Katsanevakis. “Today, for all of us in ANEK is a day of joy…. We repeat our commitment to continue supporting every effort, which brings Crete at the forefront and constitutes a source of optimism amid difficult times for the country,” he added. A special award ceremony followed for the race’s winners, while the celebration continued with traditional Cretan flavors.
