Under the title, “Chios: The Island of Homer”, travel writer Julio Castro notes that it is believed Homer gathered together with his followers at the location Daskalopetra to convey his wisdom. Castro points out that the island is an understated travel destination which offers visitors peace and solitude. “In Chios, it’s easy to find picturesque corners and postcard beaches where the only company is your own shadow,” he writes. He paints a picture of medieval villages that he found to be particularly impressive, namely Mesta and Pyrgi, while he singled out Mavra Volia beach for its uniqueness. Castro explains the process of mastiha cultivation, noting: “Mastiha has always been appreciated for two of its fundamental characteristics: Its unique flavor and therapeutic qualities, which assist in skin regeneration, oral hygiene and digestive disorders. Let the mastiha continue to cry.” The feature, published in print and online, resulted from a press trip arranged by Marketing Greece in collaboration with the press office of the Greek Embassy in Madrid, the department of tourism of the Regional Unit of Chios and Aegean. La Razón” is Spain’s fourth largest newspaper. Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
