Welcome to “Pioneering Greeks”, the column of GTP Headlines, which highlights the Greeks that stand out for their creative thinking in the business world. “Pioneering Greeks” is a collaboration between LoveGreece.com and Greek Travel Pages (GTP).

This week we introduce Alexandra Theohari, founder of Klothό, a clothing company that creates products inspired and based on the traditional art of weaving of Crete.

Klothό creates unique and timeless products of superior quality that combine Cretan tradition and techniques with motifs and colors that follow the modern trends and lifestyle.

Although a “young” company, counting only two years of operation, the idea and inspiration for its creation already existed. It emerged when Alexandra realized that fashion and tradition could be perfectly combined through the art of weaving, a lesser-known art that really has a lot to offer.

Klothό’s products are clothes and handbags made with traditional techniques. They can be found in selected stores in Greece, but also in the company’s space on Crete, which is a weaving studio and a showroom.

The production process is conducted with traditional weaving techniques, not using any machines. The pattern is chosen and woven into the traditional wooden loom. This is something that differentiates Klothό from the competitive companies and gives cultural value to the product.

The values of the company include responsibility, respect for tradition, quality, preservation and promotion of traditional techniques that unfortunately are not used in recent years. Moreover, Klothό invests in sustainable development, focuses on people, respects the craftsman, helps the local economy and chooses environmentally friendly materials.

“We want to show that the Greeks are hardworking and with high spirits, even in a difficult economic environment and continue to dream, create and work,” Alexandra said.

Inspired by the dynamism and creativity of the Greek entrepreneurial spirit, LoveGreece was founded in 2013 as an initiative to boost and promote the country’s image abroad by profiling talented and successful Greeks. With their ethos and vision, Greece’s entrepreneurs and professionals are an important aspect of the country worth highlighting to the world. LoveGreece is powered by Gina Mamidaki, the founder of the G & A Mamidakis Foundation.
