Event News ‘Tinos Challenge’ Invites Athletes to Extreme Edition by GTP editing team 22 September 2017 written by GTP editing team 22 September 2017 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 7 The “Tinos Challenge”, a sports tourism event that aims to highlight the cultural heritage and unique landscape of Tinos, is coming back in 2017 with its “Xtreme Edition” during December 2 and 3. In its second year, the Tinos Challenge is considered a challenge for runners, who are called to run through the ancient and contemporary trails of the Cycladic island of Tinos. The Vertical Race The vertical race will kick off on Saturday, December 2, from the Isternia bay. Participants are challenged to run a 1.5-km distance with 325 meters of vertical descent to reach the Isternia village. The athletes will run in groups of four and their final ranking will be based on their finish time. 20- and 4-km Races On Sunday, December 3, with the Monastery of Iera Kardia as their starting point, participants will run through Tinos’ 14 traditional villages in a 20-km race with a descent of 1,000 meters. The starting point of the 4-km race will also take place from the Monastery of Iera Kardia. Athletes will run through the settlements of Koumarou, Loutra and Ksinaras to reach the finish line, which is back at monastery. Athletes who will manage to finish the race will receive championship points. For more information and to register press here. The Tinos Challenge is part of the Cyclades Trail Cup, which includes events on several islands (Naxos, Amorgos, Syros, Andros, Donousa and Tinos) and aims to highlight the natural beauty and special features of each island.
