Getting around Athens is changing thanks to the new integrated ΑΤΗ.ΕΝΑ ticket and ΑΤΗ.ΕΝΑ smart card now being issued across the Greek capital’s transport network.

Starting today, commuters can apply for ATH.ENA cards at all metro and ISAP urban railway stations (Lines1, 2 and 3) by submitting a self-addressed envelope with a recent ID/Passport-style photo, a photocopy of their health insurance number (AMKA), a photocopy of the monthly coupon and an application – QR code. Cards will then be sent in the mail and can be topped up depending on travel needs for daily, five- or three-day travel and are valid on travel modes across Athens including Athens metro and express buses to Athens International Airport.

“Measures have been taken to normalize the situation and ease the inconvenience,” said Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis, adding that “additional staff will aid in further facilitating the process”.

The personalized plastic smart card aims to improve access and travel for passengers, providing a wider choice of fares depending on destination, distance and zone. So far more than 32,000 cards have been issued.
