Crete Governor Stavros Arnaoutakis spoke at the 13th Panhellenic “Aluminum & Construction” conference in Heraklio, Crete. The island’s upgraded hotels as well as its diverse tourism products are in turn attracting higher profile tourists willing to spend more, said Arnaoutakis adding that alternative tourism offerings aim to extend the tourism season beyond the traditional four months of summer injecting much-needed revenue into local and national economies. Addressing the 13th Panhellenic “Aluminum & Construction” conference held in Heraklio and attended by sector professionals and entrepreneurs, Arnaoutakis said that more than 5,000 beds are being added to Crete’s five-star hotel dynamic and estimated that an additional 25,000 new beds will be created in the next five years. The event focused on energy-saving materials and methods while hoteliers had the chance to meet with architects, engineers and experts to learn more about energy upgrades.
