Laws, Regulations & Policy Airbnb Hosts in Greece will Have to Register their Property by GTP editing team 22 November 2017 written by GTP editing team 22 November 2017 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 9 It will be mandatory for individuals in Greece interested in renting out their property for the short term through Airbnb-type platforms to enroll in a new electronic registry, Deputy Finance Minister Katerina Papanatsiou informed the Association of Sharing Economy in Greece on Wednesday. The registry for short-term rentals is currently being prepared by Greece’s Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE). According to the association, during a meeting in Athens, both sides agreed on the need to protect the market from monopolies. Moreover, the association said that both sides agreed that the sharing economy has a positive contribution to the economy as it promotes the concept of Greek hospitality, strengthens local products and businesses and makes use of assets that otherwise would remain inactive. “The ministry’s position is that registration will come into effect in the first quarter of the new year and will be mandatory,” the association said, adding that the meeting ended with a mutual commitment to continue the constructive dialogue between both parties. According to past announcements, short-term rental hosts that do not register their property will face a fine of up to 5,000 euros. The Association of Sharing Economy in Greece was established to promote the interests of those engaged in the sharing economy and are presently involved in the short-term rental market.
