Majorca remains at the top of Germans’ bucket list but Greece seems to be replacing Turkey. Bearing forecasts out is the inclusion of new direct flights to Greek destinations from Germany, as well as the addition of more hotels to tour packages on offer from the likes of Thomas Cook, Neckermann, Alltours ITS and DER Touristik. The number of German tourists to Greece surged in 2017, with a total of 3.5 million visiting Greek destinations. Greece appears to be benefitting from the Turkey’s decline with tourist figures there dropping for yet another year. In the meantime, Spain remains at the top of Germans’ holiday choice but is also expensive compared to Greece and Italy, where German tour operators are not expecting a change in prices. Indicatively, Alltours has increased rates by 3.2 percent on average, while Thomas Cook and Neckermann boosted their prices by 4 percent for travel packages to Spain and Greece. In the meantime, Turkey and Egypt have lowered their prices in efforts to regain lost ground.
