Air Travel Makedonia Airport Handling All Flights as Scheduled by GTP editing team 13 December 2017 written by GTP editing team 13 December 2017 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 20 All flights to and from Thessaloniki’s Makedonia Airport are being carried out according to schedule since November 24, Greece’s transport ministry said on Tuesday. The airport has handled 1,866 flights in the last 19 days while runway works are underway, compared to 1,850 flights before the works, the authority said, adding that the decision to suspend flights from the airport are isolated incidents affecting a small number of airlines. It should be noted that the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority had timely informed both – the airport’s managing company and the airlines – about the works being carried out,” the statement said. Budget carrier EasyJet announced its decision earlier this month to suspend its flights for 48 hours and transport travelers via Athens and Kavala airports, citing safety for its customers and crew due to poor landing conditions augmented by bad weather and the lack of an instrument landing system. According to the ministry statement, the current runway being used has been inspected and approved via test flights by the Civil Aviation Authority. The ministry further added that upgrade works are currently being carried out at other regional airports across Greece, without affecting air traffic or services provided to passengers and visitors.
