TEMES S.A., the development company of Costa Navarino, recently issued its second Sustainability Report for 2016, which highlights its commitment to a long-term strategy for sustainable development, based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. “Staying true to our commitment for sustainable development, this year we took a step forward, connecting our corporate goals with UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals” said Stephanos Theodorides, vice chairman and managing director of TEMES SA. “The 17 SDGs for the first time provide a common language and a common framework of operation on an international level, which ensure that companies are accountable for their actions; set specific goals; operate with transparency and measurable results,” TEMES said in an announcement. The company’s 2016 Sustainability Report presents a tourism development model which respects the environment; enhances the local economy and community and promotes the area’s history and cultural heritage. “This model is based on the cooperation of all stakeholders and shows progress on four axes: the employees, the environment, the local community, the visitors and clients,” the announcement said. Among the initiatives undertaken by TEMES in close collaboration with its stakeholders are the Navarino Environmental Observatory, a pioneer research center for the study of climate change; the Natura Hall, an interactive environmental exhibition center and the Navarino Pet Community, a volunteering program aiming to provide shelter to the region’s stray animals.
