Turnover from sales for Greek destinations grew by 30 percent in 2017 with the number of German holidaymakers reaching 3.2 million from from 2.5 million, up by 700,000 travelers. Greece is expected yet again to push Turkey aside in 2018 with sector professionals in Germany expecting a record year ahead as more German travelers choose Greece for their holidays. Thomas Cook said Greece is set to be the second most popular destination in 2018, while TUI Group said it would increase its family offers to Greece after sealing new deals with five hotels on Rhodes, Corfu, Kos and in the western Peloponnese. Corfu Island “The political uncertainty in Germany has had no effect on the desire of German citizens to travel,” DRV president Norbert Fiebig told DPA. According to German media reports, amid a stronger economy, German citizens are willing to spend more on their summer holidays with a total of 14 billion euros going to travel agents, tour groups and websites in 2017 – up by 4 percent against 2016.
