According to an announcement, AIA was certified by an expert committee of the Authority for its operations management and organizational structure of its procedures that are based on the strict institutional framework of the European Union, which confirms the high level of the respective services provided.

Athens Airport is the first airport in Greece to receive such certification, which covers infrastructure (corridors etc.), operational processes (fire safety etc), as well as the organization form of a modern airport.

The certification is considered a guarantee for air carriers and passengers that AIA has set a high level of operational safety and that its infrastructure and procedures are in line with European legislation.

The Authority also announced that the certification process of the remaining regional airports in Greece is expected to be completed in the coming days. This includes the 14 airports managed and operated by Fraport Greece.

EASA is an EU agency established in 2002 with the mandate to issue implementing flight safety rules and approve airworthiness standards through certification. Headquartered in Cologne, the agency currently counts 32 member states (28 EU Member States, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein).
