Fraport Greece, the owner and operator of 14 regional airports in Greece, has appointed Ilias Maragakis as its new chief operating officer. According to an announcement, Ilias joined Fraport Greece at the start of the project in 2016. In his previous role as director of safety and performance, amongst others, he oversaw the implementation of the highest international standards, procedures and best practices. “Ilias Maragakis is an executive, who has already significantly contributed to the ongoing course of Fraport Greece, highlighted by the recent successful award from the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification to the 14 airports,” CEO Alexander Zinell said in an announcement. Ilias has over 20 years of aviation experience having worked at EASA for nine years, and prior to that, as a consultant for the expansion of regional airports in the UK. The 14 regional airports under Fraport’s control are those in Thessaloniki, Corfu, Chania, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Aktion, Kavala, Rhodes, Kos, Samos, Mytilini, Mykonos, Santorini and Skiathos.
