The Municipality of Zakynthos in collaboration with the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) announced plans to set up a tourism school in March with the aim to train tourism professionals in best practices and quality service.

Speaking at a SETE training event on the island last week, the vice president of the Committee for Tourist Development and Promotion of the Zakynthos Municipality, Antonis Nikoloudakis, announced the plans, saying that the goal is for the island to upgrade not only its infrastructure but its services as well and serve as a model for other destinations to follow.

“To do this, tourism stakeholders should not stop at the annual profits, but should constantly improve themselves and their knowledge so that their presence in tourism is more dynamic and with high quality,” Nikoloudakis said, adding that “ongoing training to upgrade tourism services is the tool that will keep demand high, even in not so favorable times.

Nikoloudakis added that the committee would be organizing a workshop on sustainability in tourism in the coming months, in view of the increasing numbers of visitors expected this summer.
