Company updates Volotea Increases Passenger Traffic by 42% in 2017 by GTP editing team 5 February 2018 written by GTP editing team 5 February 2018 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 8 Volotea, the Spanish carrier connecting medium and small cities in Europe, in 2017 increased its passenger traffic by 42 percent, reaching 4.82 million passengers compared to 3.39 million in 2016. According to an announcement, Volotea operated a total of 44,500 flights in 2017 in comparison to 37,300 in 2016, “becoming one of the fastest growing large LCC airlines in Europe”. The Spanish carrier increased passenger traffic by 80 percent in Toulouse, 73 percent in Asturias, 51 percent in Nantes, 60 percent in Genoa, 37 percent in Bordeaux, 32 percent in Strasbourg, 25 percent in Verona, 24 percent in Palermo and 10 percent in Venice. In 2017, the airline’s turnover rose by 22 percent to exceed 300 million euros. Volotea’s seat load factor grew by 11 basic points reaching an average of 86 percent throughout the year, with all bases exceeding previous year’s figures. 2018: New routes, bases, aircraft Volotea is also among the top nine airlines in the world opening more routes. This year, the airline recently launched 58 new routes, increasing the number of its destinations network to 293, connecting with direct flights 78 European mid- and small-sized cities in 13 countries. Volotea expects to carry 5.7 – 6 million passengers this year. Therefore, four new aircraft Airbus 319 will be received, in order for the company to increase its fleet to 32 units. Additionally, Athens, Bilbao and Marseille have been selected to become new Volotea bases this year. Aircraft will start being based in these airports in March and April to boost operations with an enhanced tailor-made offer of additional seats and new destinations. All three destinations showed a passenger increase of more than 77 percent in 2017. Moreover, approximately 250 new positions will open for recruitment in the company’s headquarters and twelve bases in 2018. Intermodal Air is the GSA (general sales agent) for Volotea in Greece.
