Photo Source: http://www.theotheraegean.com Ways to further develop tourism in the North Aegean Region while restoring the reputation of the islands affected by the refugee crisis were the focus of the first in a series of Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) workshops held on the island of Lesvos. SETE President Yiannis Retsos agreed that the islands should retain a special tax status and further discussed ways to link the agri-food sector with culture, implementing a strategy for sustainable development, strengthening the role of tourism in the community – all of which can contribute greatly to both the traveler experience and local growth, capital.gr reports. Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) president Yiannis Retsos. According to Retsos, linking the tourism and the agri-food and culture sectors will not only stimulate domestic production, create new markets and develop quality products, but will also bring forth new destinations via the production, distribution and marketing of their local products, gastronomy and experiential experiences. SETE’s series of regional workshops will move to Kos in mid-February. Last year’s events included visits to Patra, Alexandroupolis, Volos, Santorini, Corfu, Rethymno, Rhodes, Tripolis, Lamia, Ioannina and Thessaloniki.
