Athens Mayor Honored for Supporting “Athens Marathon. The Authentic”

Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis was recently honored by the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS) for contributing to the establishment of the “Athens Marathon. The Authentic” as a leading international sports event.

Athens Marathon the Authentic logoDuring a recent ceremony, Kaminis thanking SEGAS for the honor, and said he would continue to support events that strengthen Athens’ prestige and fame.

“The Authentic Marathon is sending a message of solidarity. It is a chance to promote the ideals of fair play… We should never forget that in every common effort — such as the marathon — it doesn’t matter who reaches the finish line first. We always run the route together,” Kaminis said.

According to an announcement, the “Athens Marathon. The Authentic” and the Athens Half Marathon events are constantly being upgraded and every year attract dozens of thousands of runners from all over the world, also drawing global attention to Athens.

More than 51,000 professional and amateur runners from 101 countries ran in the 35th “Athens Marathon. The Authentic” on November 12, 2017. Αccording to SEGAS’ calendar, this year’s event will take place on Sunday, November 11.
