Photo © Panos Karas / Shutterstock The Ionian Islands in Greece, for the first time, will be connected through a ferry service that will begin on May 1. Photo source: Joy Lines Ferry company Ilida Paxos Hydrofoil has announced routes to the Ionian Islands with ferry services running until October 31. All routes will be carried out via passenger ship High Speed Azimut Joy Cruises, which has a length of 30 meters, a maximum width of 6 meters and a passenger capacity of 170. The new ferry line will connect Corfu with Paxi, Lefkada (Vasiliki port), Ithaki (Pisaetos port), Kefalonia (Sami port) and Zakynthos on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The route connecting Zakynthos to Corfu will be operated on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The ferry connection of the Ionian Islands had been a demand of locals and professionals for years. In early February a tender to serve the the state-subsidized ferry route was launched and awarded to Ilida Paxos Hydrofoil. Tourism professionals expect the new route to positively affect the tourist traffic of the Ionian Islands as visitors will be able to travel easily from one island to another.
