Photo Source: @Aegean Islands (#aegeanlikenoother) With the aim of establishing Greece as a year-round destination through the extension of the season, the Tourism Ministry recently announced plans to launch its ambitious campaign from the island of Rhodes. GNTO Vice President Angeliki Chondromatidou and South Aegean Region Governor George Hatzimarkos. Plans to kick-start promotional actions focusing on year-round tourism were presented during a working meeting on Rhodes, with the participation of Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) Vice President Angeliki Chondromatidou, South Aegean Region Governor George Hatzimarkos, South Aegean Region Vice Governor of Tourism Marietta Papavasiliou, hoteliers and tourism stakeholders who had the opportunity to make proposals. Rhodes is one of two areas which will feature in the ministry’s campaign. Referring to the ministry’s strategy, Governor Hatzimarkos underlined the importance of the action, saying its success is both a challenge and opportunity. “The extended period achieved in the last two years must become permanent so that we can draw up a far-reaching plan that will secure 365 days of tourism,” Hatzimarkos said. Grand Master’s Palace, Rhodes. “The selection of Rhodes as one of the two Greek destinations from where the ministry will launch this program is of vital importance… only if it is embraced by the local community can this ambitious goal be achieved,” he added. Aiming to attract investments as well as create more jobs, new business activity and steady sources of income for local communities, the tourism ministry has been promoting a 365-day-a-year model for sustainable tourism that involves relevant ministries, regions, chambers and tourism professionals.
