As part of his preparations for the new summer tourism season, the mayor of the Cycladic island of Mykonos, Konstantinos Koukas, recently visited Greek Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura in Athens to discuss current issues and actions concerning the promotion of the destination.

According to the Tourism Ministry, Mykonos, which is continuously strengthening its international ranking among the most popular global destinations, is expected to see an increase in arrivals this year following a rise in 2017.

The main topics discussed during the meeting included the promotion of Mykonos to new upscale travel markets and priorities for the continuous improvement of the quality of the tourist product.

Also, issues that depend on cooperation with other ministries were raised, particularly with regard to projects related to the island’s general infrastructure that are expected to boost the destination’s competitiveness and provide high-level tourism services.

Moreover, Minister Kountoura and Mayor Koukas discussed the island’s potential in sea tourism.

The meeting was also attended by Mykonos City Council President Miltiadis Atzamoglou.
