Delphi, Greece

The Municipality of Delphi and Enterprise Greece recently signed a memorandum of cooperation, which foresees the development of the properties currently managed by the municipality for tourism, culture and other purposes.

Mayor of Delphi Andreas Panayotopoulos

The memorandum was signed between Delphi Mayor Andreas Panayotopoulos, Enterprise Greece CEO Elias Athanasiou and Regional governor of Central Greece, Kostas Bakoyannis, on the sidelines of the Delphi Economic Forum III, which is currently underway in Delphi.

Under the agreement, Enterprise Greece will proceed with the necessary studies and the issuing of licenses for new investments to take place in the area. Both parts will then present their plans to potential investors from Greece and abroad.

The Municipality has registered all properties under its management from Delphi to Itea. “We estimate that such a project will attract a great interest from investors, due to the unique features of the area, its proximity to Athens and the brand name of Delphi, ” the Mayor of Delphi Andreas Panayotopoulos told GTP Headlines during the Delphi Economic Forum III.

“All projects will be in line with the cultural heritage of Delphi and will aim at preserving its natural environment,” he added.

Delphi, Greece

Delphi is visited by people from all over the world and hosts a number of conferences every year, from spring to fall. Tourism arrivals significantly increased last year, and local officials expect further growth by around 15 percent in 2018.

“2017 has been a good year and 2018 is expected to be even better,” Elisavet Kotsanou, President of the Municipal Council of Delphi told GTP Headlines.  “The tourism season starts in winter; since February we have had many students from foreign universities visiting Delphi,” she added.

A UNESCO World Heritage site, Delphi was considered by the ancient Greeks as the center of Earth. It is famous as the ancient sanctuary that grew rich as the seat of Pythia, the oracle consulted about important decisions throughout the ancient classical world.
