ADVERTISMENT Launched 11 years ago by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Earth Hour annual global environmental awareness event emphasizes the threat of climate change. The two luxury hotels will join millions around the world by turning off their lights on Saturday, at 8.30 pm local time, for 60 minutes, to share the powerful message and raise environmental awareness. As announced, the Hotel Grande Bretagne and the King George Hotel will both turn off exterior lighting; dim or turn off non-essential interior lighting and use candlelight in public areas such as restaurants and bars. Hotel guests will be notified of these actions with messages on their in-room TV screens and will be given the opportunity to participate, by switching off or dimming their in-room lighting. The same applies for individuals or companies that will hold events in the hotels’ venues. The hotels’ management will also encourage its employees to support Earth Hour by switching off the lights in their own homes, while it will organize a candlelit lunch and a dinner in their café. Moreover, as every year, the hotels’ management company Marriott International will donate 1 US dollar to WWF for each property that posts their Earth Hour efforts on Twitter or Instagram with hashtags #MIEarthHour and #Serve360. “We are very happy that we have the chance to participate for another year in this very important action for our environment, on local and international level through Marriott, all united in order to increase awareness on climate change and energy saving for the future of our planet,” said the general manager and managing director of the two hotels, Tim Ananiadis. Hotel Grande Bretagne and King George are owned and controlled by Lampsa Hellenic Hotels S.A, a subsidiary company of Laskaridis group. To learn more about the “Earth Hour” visit www.earthhour.org.
