Photo Source: @ConsumelessMed In efforts to promote sustainable tourism practices and raise environmental awareness, the Municipality of Naxos and the Small Cyclades is calling on local tourism enterprises to participate in the European Interreg Med Consume-Less program. Consume-Less aims to develop integrated sustainable energy, water and waste management strategies and to promote sustainable tourism models in Mediterranean cities. Six pilot areas are currently involved : Naxos in Greece; Gozo in Malta; Vélez-Málaga in Spain; Saranta in Albania; Ragusa and Realmonte in Sicily. The program is addressed to tourism enterprises such as accommodation units, coffee shops and restaurants among others. “The Municipality is proposing activities of sustainable environmental policy, aiming to achieve responsible energy and water consumption, reduce waste, as well as promote the local cultural heritage,” an announcement said. Local enterprises will have the opportunity to promote their offerings worldwide through the program’s website, as well as use the Consume-Less seal in their promotional activities. Interested companies can become members of the Consume-Less network, as long as they meet the requirements set by the program’s operators, free of charge.
