Where will Greeks Travel for Easter 2018?

With the Orthodox Easter holiday fast approaching, the Greeks have already made plans on where to travel, with the Greek Islands as well as major European cities being the top-scoring destinations.

According to data released by online ticket agent airtickets, the majority of Greek travelers – more than 62 percent – will travel to European destinations, with London and Rome, as well as Larnaca in Cyprus among their top choices. The figures concern air reservations made between April 4 and 11, with the average cost of round-trip tickets reaching 235 euros/person.

Furthermore, 38 percent of the flights booked concern destinations in Greece, with Athens, Thessaloniki, Chania on Crete, and Corfu leading the choices of domestic travelers.

The city of Chania also tops the preferences of ferry travelers, according to data released by travelplanet24, based on the number of ferry bookings for the April 4-10 period. Santorini ranks second followed by Rhodes in third place, Tinos and Naxos in fourth and fifth respectively. Ferry tickets cost on average 34,50 euros/person.

Demand has also increased for Greek destinations easily accessible through the country’s road network. According to an announcement by the Federation of Hellenic Associations of Travel and Tourist Agencies (FedHATTA), the Peloponnese is a top destinastion for Greeks, followed by Pelion in central Greece, Tzoumerka, Zagorochoria and Platamonas.

Also popular are Greek destinations known for their distinctive Easter celebrations and customs such as Corfu, Crete (Chania and Rethymno), Chios, Hydra, Paros, Rhodes, Syros, Tinos, the Sporades group and Western Macedonia.

Moreover, according to FedHATTA, the top choices of outbound travelers include Jerusalem, Alexandria, Istanbul, Cyprus, Morocco, Dubai, Tunisia and Jordan.
