“Low-cost airlines like Ryanair play a key role in the tourism development of our islands,” South Aegean Deputy Governor for tourism Marietta Papavassiliou said following her meeting with Ryanair’s director of sales and marketing of Eastern Mediterranean, Nikolaos Lardis.

Ryanair cancelled its connection to Kos in 2016.

During the meeting, Papavassiliou and Lardis also discussed the possible launch of flights to Karpathos as well as the possibility of strengthening its flight schedule to Rhodes, Mykonos and Santorini.

“Knowing the importance of these airline connections, we hope for a fruitful cooperation for the benefit of our islands,” Papavassiliou added.

The region’s head of the Tourism, Sport, Culture, Lifelong Learning and Employment Department, Dimitris Paschalidis, also attended the meeting.
