In an interview to insider.gr, Tawfik said the flights will connect Athens to Hong Kong and Shanghai via Cairo, besides its new or reinstated connections with Moscow, Iraq and Libya. Tawfik went on to add that the national carrier’s five-year plan also foresees the introduction of flights to the Greek islands, on the back of the success of the Santorini route launched last year. “Our decision to include Santorini in our 2017 flight schedule out of Cairo proved to be very successful. We carried out 95 charter flights that transported many Egyptian tourists directly to the Greek islands. This success has prompted us to examine the expansion of flights to Mykonos, another important tourist destination,” Tawfik told insider.gr. Referring to the company’s performance, Tawfik said EgyptAir carried over 112,000 passengers daily with flights from Athens to Cairo and from Athens to Alexandria last year, while future plans include the addition of new aircraft to its fleet among these 24 Bombardier CS300s, six Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 15 Airbus 320neos aiming to boost the number of its airplanes to 125 by 2025.
