Event News Greece Takes Part in World Travel & Tourism Council 2018 Global Summit by GTP editing team 24 April 2018 written by GTP editing team 24 April 2018 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 9 Secretary General for Tourism Policy and Development George Tziallas represented Greece in the 2018 World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) Global Summit held April 18 – 19 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Greece was represented at the WTTC’s summit for the first time. Considered the flagship travel and tourism event of the year, the WTTC’s 18th Global Summit took place under the theme “Our People, Our World, Our Future”. The Global Summit examined crucial issues facing travel and tourism today. On the sidelines of the summit, Tziallas held meetings with government officials from foreign countries and professionals of the tourism industry. WTTC President Gloria Guevara and Secretary General for Tourism Policy and Development George Tziallas. In his meeting with WTTC President Gloria Guevara, Tziallas informed about Greece’s tourism policy which aims at establishing the country as a 365 days a year tourism destination. He met with Portugal’s Deputy Minister of Tourism Ana Godinho and agreed to cooperate to claim funds for tourism from the European Commission when planning and negotiating for the next National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) programming period. Director Francis Ford Coppola and Secretary General for Tourism Policy and Development George Tziallas. Tziallas also explored the prospects of attracting more tourists to Greece from Argentina and held meetings with Argentine Tourism Minister Gustavo Santos, Argentine Tourism Chamber President Aldo Elias and Argentine Association of Tourism Agents Vice President Mario Ijelman. In addition, Tziallas also met with renowned director Francis Ford Coppola who participated in the WTTC summit as a hotelier investing in sustainable tourism development. According to an announcement by the tourism ministry, Coppola showed a high interest in Greece and its success in tourism development.
